For our new Dallas-based VPSs we use a 2U Supermicro host server with 72GB of memory, 8 2.4Ghz Nehalem Xeon CPU cores and 6TB of disk space. We monitor load on each host server and work to ensure that each VPSs is responsive and fast. We target having, at most, 10 customers per CPU core.

Xen-based VPS hosting

Xen is the virtualization technology that we use. It is the same technology Amazon use for EC2. Other well established and well-regarded VPS hosts like Slicehost and, more recently, Linode also use Xen. Compared to other virtualization technologies, like Virtuozzo™ and VMWare™, we think Xen performs very well.  It gives a virtually-impossible-to-tell-from-a-dedicated-server experience.
