Awesome! This is freakin' awesome! I owe you a beer. Or if you aren't a beer drinker, I dunno, a glass of wine or port or a nice brandy or... I dunno, you might not be a drinker. I dunno, a coffee or tea or cola or pomegranate juice or whatever you take. Suffice it to say I owe you lack of thirst. Inebriation optional. You guys are dangerously awesome. Awesome!

- Nigel (after we refused to give up on a rather difficult application install. And for the record we've been known to drink the odd beer or wine). (#265/338)

Tue, 9 Jul 2013 05:55 AM UTC: all work on this has been completed and servers should be running normally on the new switch. Please send us a ticket if you are seeing any connectivity issues, so we can address that right away.

Tue, 9 Jul 2013 04:59 AM UTC: Public conenctions are moved. We are now going to shift private network connections.

Tue, 9 Jul 2013 03:28 AM UTC: We are on schedule to start this work in about 30 minutes

We are upgrading the switches in this cabinet. A new device is already in place, configured and working.

Benefits of this include a more capable switch with properly redundant feeds to our network core, and more reliable power.

Servers in the cabinet should not be directly affected and will continue to run normally. Only network cables are being moved.

In detail: we will be physically moving network connections from the original switches to the replacement. Initially this will incur a brief network outage while connections are moved to the new switch, Then there will be a approximately 5 minute outage while the main uplink to the switch is updated and routes change. Finally we will be moving private network connections in the same window, causing a brief outage for those.

A two hour maintenance window has been set aside, starting 4am UTC Tues 9th July, till 6am. The work is expected to be completed in the first 90 minutes of that time.
